JUST IN: Federal Ministry of Health Warns Nigerians Against Excessive Salt Intake After Viral Video

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has issued a public health advisory warning Nigerians against the excessive consumption of salt. This comes in response to a viral video featuring Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, in which he appeared to encourage increased salt intake among his followers. The Ministry emphasized that such advice contradicts globally accepted health guidelines and poses serious risks to public health.

Health experts within the Ministry highlighted that high salt consumption is strongly linked to hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure—conditions that are already prevalent in Nigeria. The World Health Organization recommends a daily salt intake of less than 5 grams (about one teaspoon) to reduce the risk of these non-communicable diseases.

The Ministry urged the public to rely on verified health advice from accredited professionals and medical institutions. It also called on religious and community leaders to refrain from sharing unverified health claims, especially those that may mislead large audiences and compromise public safety.
