37-Year-Old Nigerian Arrested in India for Alleged Drug Trafficking

Indian authorities have arrested Jacob Nnabuike Ugwu, a 37-year-old Nigerian national, for his alleged role in the inter-state trafficking of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). The arrest was carried out by the Indore Crime Branch as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug distribution networks across the country.

According to the Times of India, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajesh Dandotiya stated that Ugwu entered India about a year ago, posing as a hotel cook. He later settled in Delhi’s Krishnapuri area, where he reportedly operated a refreshment shop believed to serve as a front for drug trafficking activities.

Ugwu’s arrest was the result of a wider investigation triggered by the apprehension of two Indian nationals, Hariom Jha and Lakshya Singh Rajput, both aged 26. The pair were caught near the MR10 Bridge in Indore, in possession of 36 grams of MDMA, a Tata Altroz vehicle, and several mobile phones.

Further interrogation led police to Ugwu, who is suspected of being a key figure in a broader drug distribution network spanning multiple Indian states. He reportedly admitted to living in Delhi for two to three years and supplying MDMA through associates over the past year.

All three suspects have been charged under Crime Number 81/25, in accordance with Sections 8 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Ugwu remains in police custody as the investigation continues, with authorities indicating that additional arrests are expected as they trace the full extent of the network.
